Work Orders

A work order is used to create one or more finished goods items from the same raw material item. Work orders can be created based on the Bill of Materials standards created for the finished good items or by manually entering the finished goods items. The cost to produce or manufacturing costs can be assigned in the Bill of Materials and added to each finished goods item produced.  Other raw material items like ingredients and packaging can also be added to the work order and updated for the actual quantity used.

The work order can be opened and saved with planned finished goods production and the standard or estimated raw material quantities needed based on the standard or actual yields of the finished goods to be produced. The other raw material items and quantities are calculated based on the bill of material for each finished goods item. The work order can be completed later using the actual finished goods production, raw material and other raw material quantities. The total actual quantity of the finished goods items produced divided by the actual raw material quantity used is used to calculate the average yield for the work order. The total raw material cost can be assigned to the finished goods items produced using the average cost, item specific yield or cost, or the base selling price less the manufacturing cost standard.

Finished Goods Items with a Standard Costing method are treated as by-products on the work order. The weight produced is not included in the standard raw material or other raw material quantity needed. The weight is not included in the finished goods yield. The standard cost times the quantity produced for the item will be deducted from the total raw material value. The balance of the raw material value will be used to allocate the raw material cost to the other finished goods items produced. The standard cost method finished goods item will always be costed at the standard cost. If the standard cost method finished goods item has manufacturing cost and/or other raw material items included in the Bill of Material , the total raw material and other raw material cost will be deducted from the standard cost and the balance used as the raw material cost allocation for the standard cost item. If the total manufacturing cost plus other raw material cost exceeds the standard cost, the difference will be recorded to the Standard Cost Adjustment type assigned to the Sales Category of the standard cost method finished goods item.

The actual production yields are saved by item and vendor. The historical yields are used to recalculate demand for raw material items on the Planning Report and to calculate the raw material needed when the Work Order is created, unless "standard" yields have been chosen by setting the Calculate Demand Using Standard Yields field to Y (Y=yes) in Inventory Options,. Net•Yield actually "learns" and applies the actual yields to upcoming processing plans for greater planning accuracy. The number of yields to be used to calculate demand is set in Retention Options - Vendor Yields Per Item.

Raw Material

The raw material item name.

Production

The total amount of raw material and stocking unit of measure selected for this work order. The actual production yield is calculated based on the total planned finished goods quantity to produce divided by the actual raw material quantity selected.

Standards The standard quantity of the raw material item needed to produce the finished goods items based on either the actual or standard yield assigned to the finished goods item and the average standard yield percentage used to calculate the standard quantity needed. The yield used in the calculation is based on the Calculate Demand Using Standard Yield setting in Inventory Options. It can be set to the Actual historical yield for each finished goods item or the standard yield assigned to the finished goods item.
Lot The location ID and lot number for lotted items or the lot number for unlotted items. If "Multiple" appears in this field, this indicates the raw material item has been taken from multiple lots. If you choose not to select quantities at this time, the words "NEXT LOT" will display in RED in the Lot field. Lot selection can be done when completing the work order.
COOL The COOL identify of the raw material item. If "Multiple" appears in this field, this indicates the "From" item has been taken from multiple lots with different COOL identities. The Strict COOL level will display in RED if a strict COOL is missing from a lot . The Strict COOL identifier will appear in RED if the item has a Strict COOL level and a default COOL identity.

Finished Goods The item name of the finished goods items to be produced.
Loc The default location of the finished goods items if an item to produce is a lotted item. The default location will automatically be assigned to all lotted items on the work order. This filed will not appear once a default location has been entered or all lotted finished goods items have been assigned a location.
Production

The quantity of the finished goods item to produce on the work order in the stocking unit of measure and the average actual yield for the work order.

On Hand The current on hand balance for the finished goods item plus the planned production quantity on this work order.
Yield On an open work order where the raw material cost has not been applied to the finished goods item, this column displays the whether the Standard Yield or Actual yield was used to calculate the raw material quantity needed for the work order.
Lot The location ID and lot number for lotted items. The word" Missing " will appear in RED if the lot number was not assigned. The lot assignment can be done when creating or completing the work order.
COOL The COOL identify of the finished goods item. The Strict COOL level will display in RED if a strict COOL is missing from a lot . The Strict COOL identifier will appear in RED if the item has a Strict COOL level and a default COOL identity.
Info The item info lot attributes for the finished goods items and the lot induction note if applicable on lotted finished goods items.
